When golf courses in Pennsylvania reopened last May after being shut down for some six weeks because of the pandemic, it marked the start of a surge in the game’s popularity. Golfers, young and old, experienced, newcomers and in between, kept courses busy and that trend is continuing in 2021.

It’s no secret however that golf can be intimidating to the novice. What follows are suggestions, some dos and don’ts that will make a newcomer’s introduction to the game more rewarding and enjoyable.

Remember, golf is just a game

Golf is meant to be played for fun. It’s important to remember that. You’re not trying to win a tournament or collect on a bet. You’re playing for the enjoyment, the exercise, and the camaraderie golf has to offer. Understand that for 99-plus percent of golfers, the game is more challenging than the pros on TV make it look. So, don’t get flustered if you hit a bad shot or two.
