The discovery of an unmarked a grave on a Dunedin golf course prompted a police callout.
Members of the public spotted a strange mound near the third hole tee at Chisholm Golf Course, in the Dunedin suburb of Tahuna, on Thursday and called police just before 11am.
The ‘’grave-shaped area’’ included small white cross embedded in the disturbed dirt, Senior Sergeant Craig Dinnissen said.
However, officers quickly discovered it was not a grisly scene but the work of a prankster, he said.
The earth had been dumped at the site by a greenkeeper, and a mystery practical joker had added the cross. Case closed.

Later that night police pulled over a black Suzuki after it was driven along Princes St with no lights on.
The 20-year-old male driver claimed he was driving friends home as they were drunk, but it was later found he did not have a valid licence.
He was issued with an infringement notice and the passengers reminded about their responsibilities under alert level 4.
Police have spoken to several people from separate bubbles meeting in parts of the city.
One of those examples unfolded at Brighton Beach, with officers speaking to two people in a vehicle.
The driver told police he had driven from Dunedin as his car battery was going flat – and he needed coffee.
The two occupants of the vehicle did not live together, and were given advice about their obligations.
Police in Dunedin continue to receive numerous reports of people breaching alert level 4 rules by neighbours, with activities including partying, drinking, and vehicles spotted coming and going from properties throughout the day and night.
Dinnissen said police would continue to visit and educate those “confused by the term ‘your bubble’.’’
